Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book a guided walk?
It’s easy. Once you have made your choice(s), e-mail Edinburgh Walks at [email protected] giving details of the walk you wish to go on and the date(s), the total number of people in your party and your contact details. We will then get back to you and, if you are happy to proceed, you can simply go ahead and book through the payment link. Once this has been done, you will receive a confirmation email. Alternatively, you can phone Edinburgh Walks on (+44) 07528322766. The first booking taken on any given date gets to choose the route taken (Walk B for example). You will be advised if a route has been chosen by a previous booking for the date you wish when you contact Edinburgh Walks, so if it is not the Walk you want to take you can choose another date. Or you can book a private guided walk to guarantee the route you want. It is that simple.

How much does it cost?
The cost of a guided walk is dependent on the number of participants. Please contact us for further details.

There walk will take place with a minimum of one and a maximum of six people.

If you book for four people or more, then the guided walk is classed as being a private walk. There will be no other participants except for your party.

Will there be other groups on the walk?
If you book as an individual or couple etc., then there may be others on the guided walk, up to a maximum of six people. You can of course guarantee a private walk by requesting to book one or, if there are 4 or more of you booking together then we guarantee there will be no other participants.

How long do the walks take and what distance do they cover?
Each walk will take approximately three to four hours including the opportunity to stop, shop, rest and take photographs. The walks are taken at a leisurely pace and are approximately six to ten kilometres in length.

Do I have to be fit and what are the conditions underfoot?
As long as you are reasonably fit you will be fine. Each walk will entail some steps and an incline or two (Edinburgh is built on at least seven hills!) but most of the walking is on pavements (sidewalks) and footpaths. Please feel free to ask about your chosen walk when you make your initial enquiry.

What clothes and footwear should be worn?
Make sure you wear comfortable waterproof walking shoes, boots or a pair of good quality trainers. Something with ankle support would be ideal. With regard to clothing, check the weather beforehand and dress appropriately.

Where do each of the walks leave from?
Each walk leaves from the city centre and full details will be given at the time of booking.

However, should you make a booking for a private guided walk, will will make every effort to start the walk from your residence.

What language does the guide speak?
Each walk will be guided in English.
